Why it matters

What it changes for you.

Your systems need to know when a transfer completes or an account is credited, without asking every few seconds. Webhooks tell you, as it happens.

Every event is signed with HMAC-SHA256 in a Bridge-Signature header, so you can prove it came from us. Failed deliveries retry with backoff, an endpoint that keeps failing is paused instead of hammered, and anything you missed can be replayed.

When you rotate the signing secret, the old and new secrets overlap for a window, so a rotation never drops an event.

How it works

Step by step.

  1. Register an endpoint

Give us a URL and choose the events it should receive.

  2. Verify the signature

Check the Bridge-Signature header against your secret before trusting the body.

  3. Acknowledge quickly

Return 2xx and process in the background. Failures retry with backoff.

  4. Replay what you missed

Request any event again, or a range of them, after an outage.

  5. Rotate without gaps

New and old secrets both verify during the overlap window.

What you can switch on

Built in, not bolted on.

HMAC-SHA256 signatures

Every delivery is signed so you can verify it came from Bridge.

Retries with backoff

Failed deliveries try again, spacing out as they fail.

Auto-pause

An endpoint that keeps failing is paused, and you're told.

Replay

Ask for events again after a deploy or an outage.

Rotation with overlap

Swap secrets without dropping a single event.

Test pings

Send a test event to check your endpoint before going live.

  • HMAC-SHA256 signatures in a Bridge-Signature header
  • Secret rotation with an overlap window
  • Retries, auto-pause and replay
  • Test pings
Use cases

How businesses use it.

Illustrative businesses, not customers. Figures are made up to show the flow.

A wallet app in Lagos · Fintechs & neobanks

Credit customers as transfers land

The app polled for incoming transfers every minute and still showed balances late. Customers kept topping up twice.

  1. The app subscribes to virtual-account credit events
  2. Each event is verified and the wallet credited
  3. Duplicate deliveries are recognised by reference and ignored

Balances update as money lands, and a repeated event never credits twice.

A marketplace's engineering team in Abuja · Marketplaces

Survive a deploy

Every deploy took the webhook receiver down for a few minutes, and the team lost events.

  1. Events that failed during the deploy retry on their own
  2. Anything older is replayed by time range
  3. The team checks nothing is missing against the event list

Deploys stop losing events.

A payroll platform in Lagos · Payroll & HR platforms

Rotate a leaked secret

A developer accidentally committed the webhook secret. The team needs a new one without missing a payout event.

  1. Generate a new secret; both secrets verify during the overlap
  2. Deploy the new secret to the receiver
  3. End the overlap; the old secret stops working

The leaked secret is retired without a single dropped event.

Questions about webhooks

How do we verify an event?

Compute HMAC-SHA256 of the raw body with your secret and compare it to the Bridge-Signature header, in constant time.

Can events arrive twice?

Yes, after a retry. Use the event's reference to process each one once.

What happens when our endpoint is down?

Deliveries retry with backoff. If it keeps failing it's paused, and you can replay what you missed.
