Speak ISO 20022 with the banks you work with.

Payment initiation and direct-debit message mapping.

Why it matters

What it will change.

Banks and large companies exchange payments as structured ISO 20022 messages. If your platform can't read and write them, every bulk payment and status report becomes a manual file conversion.

ISO 20022 messaging on Bridge will map payment initiation (pain.001), direct debits (pain.008 and pacs.003) and requests to pay (pain.013) to and from Bridge payments, with status reports back.

It is built, and on its way. It carries no conformance certification.

How it works

Step by step.

  1. A message arrives

A pain.001 file from a corporate customer, by API or file transfer.

  2. It's validated

Duplicates and malformed messages will be rejected with a reason.

  3. Mapped to payments

Each instruction becomes a Bridge transfer.

  4. Status goes back

Status reports tell the sender what happened to each line.

What it will do

Built in, not bolted on.

Payment initiation

pain.001 bulk credit transfers.

Direct debits

pain.008 and pacs.003 mappings.

Requests to pay

pain.013 mapping.

Status reports

Per-line status back to the sender.

Duplicate detection

The same message sent twice will be recognised and refused.

Tracking

Follow a payment by its reference.

  • pain.001, pain.008, pacs.003 and pain.013 mappings
Use cases

How businesses could use it.

Illustrative businesses, not customers. Figures are made up to show the flow.

A bank's corporate desk in Lagos · Banks, MFBs & PSBs

Corporate bulk payments

Corporate customers send payroll as pain.001 files, and the bank re-keys them into its payments system.

  1. The file will arrive over file transfer
  2. Each line will map to a transfer
  3. Status reports will return per line

Corporate files will flow straight into payments.

Illustrative

An insurer collecting premiums in Abuja · Lenders & BNPL

Direct debits in a standard format

The insurer's collection partner expects pain.008 files. Building them by hand is error-prone.

  1. Collections will be generated as pain.008
  2. Results will map back to each policy

Premium collection will run in the format partners expect.

Illustrative

A utility in Port Harcourt · Merchants & e-commerce

Requests to pay for invoices

The utility wants to send structured payment requests customers can approve.

  1. Invoices will go out as pain.013 requests
  2. Approved requests will become payments

Bills will arrive as requests customers approve.

What it won't do

  • It carries no conformance certification.
