Help customers put money away, on their terms.

Why it matters

What it changes for you.

People save in Nigeria in a dozen ways at once: a daily contribution to a market agent, an ajo with colleagues, a fixed deposit at the bank, cash under the mattress for rent. Most savings apps offer one of these and expect customers to change their habits.

Savings on Bridge gives you the building blocks for all of them: flexible and locked plans, targets with dates, automatic funding from salary or spending, rotating groups where each member collects in turn, and agents who take deposits in cash. Every plan follows the rules you set for the product, and every naira sits on the same ledger as the rest of the customer's money.

Interest is accrued daily when you switch it on, and you switch it on only after attesting to the rate. Whether you can pay interest at all depends on your own licence: the engine is built to follow it, not to grant it.

How it works

Step by step.

  1. Define the product

Flexible or locked, with or without a target, minimums, penalties for breaking early and whether interest applies. Changes to rates and penalties take effect safely, never retroactively.

  2. The customer opens a plan

They pick a product, name the plan, set a target and a date if they want one.

  3. Money comes in

By hand, on a schedule, when salary lands, as round-ups on spending, or in cash through an agent.

  4. Interest accrues daily

When you've attested to the rate and switched it on, interest is worked out every day and paid in on the schedule you set.

  5. The plan matures or the target is met

Money moves back to the customer's account at maturity, or when they reach the target and choose to draw it down.

What you can switch on

Built in, not bolted on.

Locks that mean it

A locked plan can't be emptied on a whim. Breaking early is allowed only where the product says so, with the penalty shown before the customer confirms.

Saving on autopilot

Schedules, save-as-you-earn when salary lands, and round-ups that put the change from every payment aside.

Rotating groups

Ajo and esusu cycles over a community: members contribute each period and one collects, in an order everyone can see.

Agents who collect cash

Market agents take daily deposits and record them on the spot; savers can dispute a deposit that doesn't match.

Interest you attest to

Rates are switched on only after someone accountable attests to them, and accrue daily from that moment.

Reconciled every day

Plans are reconciled against the ledger, and any drift is raised for someone to look at, not quietly corrected.

  • Several savings plan types with their own rules
  • Automatic funding rules
  • Rotating groups (ajo, esusu)
  • Interest accrued daily

A microfinance bank with market agents in Onitsha · Banks, MFBs & PSBs

Daily savings collected at the market

Traders save ₦2,000 a day with an agent who writes it in a notebook. At month end the totals rarely agree, and traders have no way to check what the agent recorded.

  1. Each trader has a savings plan the agent can deposit into
  2. The agent records each cash deposit in the app as it's handed over
  3. The trader gets a notice of every deposit, and can dispute one that's wrong
  4. At month end the plan is the record, not the notebook

Traders see every naira they hand over, the bank sees every deposit an agent takes, and disputes have evidence on both sides.

A staff cooperative at a Lagos logistics company · Cooperatives & groups

An office ajo, without the treasurer's spreadsheet

Twelve colleagues each put in ₦50,000 a month and one collects ₦600,000 in turn. The organiser tracks it in a spreadsheet and chases late payers on WhatsApp.

  1. The cooperative runs a cycle over its community, with the collection order agreed upfront
  2. Contributions are taken on payday, automatically
  3. When a period is fully paid, the collector is paid out
  4. If a period closes short, everyone sees who hasn't paid

Everyone can see the order, who has paid and who collects next, and no one holds the pot in their own account.

Round-ups for young professionals

The bank's customers want to save but rarely move money by hand. The bank wants savings to happen without anyone having to remember.

  1. Customers open a flexible plan and switch on round-ups
  2. Every card or transfer payment rounds up to the next ₦100 and the change moves into the plan
  3. Save-as-you-earn moves 10% of each salary credit the moment it lands
  4. Customers can pause either rule at any time

Customers save a little every day without thinking about it, and can see exactly where each naira came from.

Questions about savings

Can we pay interest on savings?

Only where your licence allows it. The engine accrues interest daily once you attest to a rate and switch it on; it doesn't give you the right to pay it.

What happens when someone breaks a locked plan?

Only if the product allows breaking early. The penalty is shown before they confirm, and the rest returns to their account.

Can a cycle carry on if a collector defaults?

Yes. A collector who stops paying after collecting is recorded against the cycle, and the community's officers decide what happens next.

Do savers need a smartphone?

No. Agents can take their deposits in cash and record them on the saver's plan.
